Every Beginning Has An End

Every beginning has an end

Work ends, love ends, existence ends, because sooner or later everything comes to a final end.

We need to know how to end aspects of life that are left. Letting these situations continue, whether they are near or already dead, is like crying over spilled milk.

Nothing lasts forever

What happens to the major influences of life (dreams, intellect, love and so on) is also reflected in the smaller influences (material wealth, beauty, fame) which also come to an end. Both great and small things come to an end, because everything in life is “borrowed”  and has a lock.

Even these material objects, as they complete their cycle, often generate disappointment and anger in us,  which is the opposite of what they produce when new. This is perhaps why we give them an eternal character. We treat them as if they were part of our life or some other organ of our body.

If we use cosmetic surgery to disguise our age or if we do a lot of exercise to keep looking young, we fall into the fantasy of impossible dreams and useless goals. Because instead of improving your appearance (which is possible), our dignity and our human condition diminish. We become something like a product for sale, exchange, and a marketing tool to please others.

If there is anything that could be more lasting, but not forever, it is immaterial and profound realities.

No one knows what they have until they lose it

We often complain and reject a person or a situation until these people are no longer with us for whatever reason, or until these situations, which were actually not negative, get much worse. It is the comparison that gives us great insight into what hurts us and weighs  the intensity of our suffering.

For example,  if you complain about your partner all the time and then are single again, you will suddenly appreciate all the little things about that person. Or when you move from a warm family to a beautiful house, which lacks the warmth of the family… You also see this when you complain about the flu as if it is something terrible, until you get a more serious condition.

When everything starts there is often a sense of renewal and you are full of hopeful promises, but  over time we begin to recognize more faults than virtues, in objects, people and situations alike. So when these realities end or disappear, the opposite happens: we focus more on the virtues and minimize the mistakes.

The great merit of accepting things as they are

To the extent that we accept and assume that everything that begins must end, we will avoid multiple problems. We are not saying that we should plunge into despair or cynicism. You should know that there will always come a time when we have to say goodbye.

Loss and grief are constant in our lives. Throughout our existence we have to say goodbye to people, situations or beloved objects many times. Everything is temporary, nothing lasts forever, not even our own lives. We all know this and yet we create the same fantasy of eternity over and over again.

Not knowing how to break free, not knowing how to say goodbye or deciding that something has to stop can be very problematic. Just like the opposite: never do anything for fear of losing something. Perhaps,  if we learn to see the fact that everything ends as natural, we can enjoy what is happening here and now, rather than longing for things that are past.
